Portland Observatory, 138 Congress St., Portland. Breathtaking views from country's only remaining maritime signal tower.
The Portland Observatory is the last remaining maritime signal tower in the United States. The Observatory served Portland's bustling waterfront from 1807 until the early 20th century. Views of Portland, the White Mountains and Casco Bay are available from the top of the 86-foot-high tower, reached by climbing the 103 stairs. Lift provides universal access to first floor.
