Always the third Friday in July, the Yarmouth Clam Festival attracts visitors from all over Maine and beyond, as well as locals who line up their beach chairs on the side of the main drag a few days before the parade for the best possible seat. This festival, a Maine summertime tradition since 1965, is a celebration of the local community with the famous bivalve at its center – the delicious Maine clam that is featured in abundance.

Events such as a clam-shucking contest, where prizes go to the fastest shuckers in professional and amateur heats, bring the excitement, along with street dancing, running races, a professional bike race, firefighter’s muster, and the popular tot race, the Diaper Derby. Musical acts and entertainers perform on four stages, and crafters, artists, and photographers display and sell their work. This seasoned tradition wouldn’t be complete without a full-fledged carnival: a gigantic Ferris Wheel offers awe-inspiring views of Yarmouth from the very top that makes adults feel like children again.
