Your journey begins at our rental shop in the heart of Portland’s Old Port.
After bike fitting and a safety briefing, you begin pedaling along the Eastern Promenade Trail. Our first stop will be at the top of the Eastern Promenade, and Fort Allen Park home to a Fort defending Portland from 1775 through the War of 1812. Ask most locals, and they will tell you this is the best view of Casco Bay in the city.
After enjoying the view and the monuments, we continue along the Eastern Promenade and to East Bayside. Known to locals as “Yeast Bayside” because this small neighborhood is home to eleven makers of craft alcohol from beer to wine and kombucha it offers something for everyone.
Leaving East Bayside, we cycle along Back Cove. Back Cove is a three-and-a-half-mile multi-use path that encircles the Back Cove. This is the social hub of Portland; it bustles all summer with walkers, runners, and cyclists. From here, we will ride through a few neighborhoods to get across the to the west side of the peninsula. You will be glad you are riding an e-bike as we pedal up to the Western Promenade.
After the great fire of 1866, all the wealthy residents of Portland moved to the Western Prom and built stately homes. Today, it is one of the best-preserved Victorian Neighborhoods in America. We take a spin around, enjoying the architecture, before heading to see some lighthouses.
After crossing the Casco Bay Bridge, we hop on the East Coast Greenway for a little bit of easy pedaling. We will leave the greenway and pedal to Willard Square. From here, it is on to the famous Portland Headlight. We will stop for a great lobster roll lunch from our good friends at Bite Into Maine. We spend some time exploring Fort Williams Park before heading back to Portland.
Along the way, we will visit both the Spring Point Ledge Light and Bug Light before returning to the starting point.
