Join us for a talk with Blake as he combines his insider’s perspective with meticulous research, guiding the audience through the creation of Ford’s most revered Westerns. With unfettered access to John Ford’s papers, Blake explains how stunts were achieved, how a large film company set up in a remote location, and how actors dreaded being “in the barrel” with the cantankerous director. You’ll also learn how an unknown wrangler/stuntman named Ben Johnson saved the lives of three stuntmen. About the presenter: Michael F. Blake is a two-time Emmy-winning makeup artist, with sixty years of experience in the film and television industry. A respected film scholar, with a master’s degree from UCLA, Michael’s three books on silent screen legend Lon Chaney are called the definitive works on the actor. He has written two other books on the Western film genre and two books on Theodore Roosevelt. Free and open to the public. Registration kindly requested.
