WMPG is a community radio station broadcasting 24/7 from the University of Southern Maine Portland Campus on 90.0 FM. The station can be heard as far north as Augusta, Maine, as far west as New Hampshire, and features a diverse program offering ranging from rock to jazz to foreign to local or global issues. In an era where radio may seem like technology that is going the way of the 8-track and cassette player, WMPG remains an integral part of the Portland community, empowering USM students and community members alike to create innovative, high-quality media that fosters a genuine exchange of ideas and celebrates the people and music of Maine. The documentary An Extraordinary Place is a showcase of the people behind the microphone at WMPG and the work they do. Join filmmaker Tom Bell and WMPG Development Director Annella Linton at MHS for a screening of the film and a discussion of what makes this radio station so special.

About the presenters:
Tom Bell worked for 16 years as a reporter for the Portland Press Herald. He lives in Yarmouth and is currently the Communications Director at the Greater Portland Council of Governments.

Annella Linton serves as the Development Director at WMPG, where she oversees fundraising efforts, community engagement, marketing, and strategic growth initiatives. Annella is the producer of the multi-award-winning documentary by Tom Bell, An Extraordinary Place, a film that captures the passion and dedication of WMPG’s DJs and the spirit of community radio.
