About Us

Built from 1858 to 1864, no battles were fought there and no troops were stationed there. Advancing military technology, including ironclad ships and long range guns, made the fort obsolete before it could be used.

The fort is now a park, accessible only by boat. The nonprofit Friends Of Fort Gorges is committed to the preservation of Fort Gorges and ensuring access to facilitate its educational and cultural potential. Group and private tours are available from late May to mid-October. Private events are available and private tours may be arranged in the off-season.
