Welcome to the home of the Kotzschmar Organ, a cultural gem nestled in Portland, Maine. Our journey began in 1981 with the establishment of the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ (FOKO), a non-profit dedicated to preserving and promoting this historic municipal organ. Housed within the majestic Merrill Auditorium, formerly known as the City Hall Auditorium, our venue seats 1900 guests and serves as a hub for musical diversity, featuring jazz, classical, and pops concerts throughout the year.
James Kennerley was appointed the Municipal Organist of Portland, Maine, in 2017, joining a lineage of distinguished concert organists dating back to 1912. FOKO continues its mission to maintain, enhance, and celebrate the Kotzschmar Organ. We present a rich program of concerts annually, showcasing world-renowned organists and guest artists from around the globe. Beyond concerts, FOKO supports educational initiatives, lectures, demonstrations, and tours, fostering a deeper appreciation of this iconic instrument.
Whether you’re drawn to the history of the organ, the excellence of our musical performances, or the educational opportunities we offer, we invite you to explore the Kotzschmar Organ. Tickets for our events are conveniently available through the PortTIX office at (207) 842-0800. Join us in celebrating and preserving this musical treasure of Portland, Maine.
