Gritty’s Portland Brew Pub

Gritty McDuff’s Brewing Company, commonly contracted to Gritty’s, is an American microbrewery, with locations in Portland, Freeport, and Auburn, Maine.

When Gritty’s Portland Brew Pub opened in 1988 it became Maine’s first brew pub since prohibition and a leader in the state’s microbrew revolution. Since then, locals of every stripe and visitors from around the world have been enjoying fine, small-batch ales brewed on-premise, great pub fare and a real old world pub atmosphere.

Gritty’s Portland Brewery, our first, was designed and manufactured in 1988 by Peter Austin & Partners in Ringwood, Hampshire, England. All subsequent renovations and expansions of our brewery have remained true to the original, classic style of the English pub brewery. The pub brewery produces our five classic ales and many seasonal ales depending on the time of year. From its inception, our brewery has been producing award-winning ales, and production has grown at a rate of thirty percent per year. We use only the finest hops, English barley malt, and a special English ale yeast and water to produce hand-crafted ales that are all-natural and always fresh.

Gritty’s has frequently been awarded the titles of ”Maine’s Best Brew Pub”, ”Best Maine Microbrew” and ”Best Bar” in statewide polls. In 2011 Gritty’s was awarded Restaurateur of the Year by the Maine Restaurant Association.
